Leading scientists still reject God

In 1998, researchers Edward J. Larson and Larry Witham published a brief paper in Nature summarizing their survey of 1,000 randomly selected American scientist's religious views. Participants were asked about their personal belief in God, and their belief in human immortality. The survey repeated the work of eminent US psychologist James H. Leuba and his landmark surveys of 1914 and 1933.

The 1998 survey results found that 72.2% of the participants did not believe in God, and 76.7% did not believe in human immortality.
